Chuck Berry to me was the original front man of Rock and Roll; he’s the one that got it going, not that guy who died on the toilet seat (sorry Elvis, that’s a sorry way to go).
Chucky B was and still is Rock and Roll. Although he was in the thickness of probably the violent times of racial discrimination in Post-Civil War America, his music was loved by White audiences everywhere and even manipulated and covered by White Rock and Roll artists when Rock and Roll was continuing to flourish. You couldn’t fake that you didn’t like Chuck because he was that incredible.
He’s in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he’s in my music library, and he’s in the Black History Month Photo Collection for the second year in a row. We love you Chuck!
